This side gate was built outside and to the west of the southern brick gate of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests in 1772 (the 37th year of the Qing-dynasty Qianlong Emperor’s reign), when the emperor was over 60 years old, to reduce the amount of walking required of him.
