Built in 1420 (the 18th year of the Ming-dynasty Yongle Emperor’s reign), originally as the Divine Music Temple, it was the site of instruction and management for Zhonghe Shaoyue (a form of ceremonial music) as well as for related rehearsals before sacrificial ceremonies. In 1743 (the eighth year of the Qing-dynasty Qianlong Emperor’s reign), it was renamed the Divine Music Office, and in 1754, it was given its current name. The complex houses the Ningxi Hall, Xianyou Hall, Zhaoyi Office, Muyi Office, Linglun Hall, and Garment Room.
